Lifetime Transferable Workmanship & Materials Warranty
We are a customer service company that happens to build decks — and the warranty is where that shows. Most deck builders warranty their labor for a year, and the materials are somebody else’s problem. Ours covers both: the workmanship and the materials that make up your deck, for as long as you own your home, and it transfers to the next owner. It’s the only warranty of its kind in Southeast Michigan.
If anything ever goes wrong with your deck, call us at (734) 931-6700. We’ll make it right.
What’s covered
- Workmanship — the way your deck was built, top to bottom.
- Decking, railing and hardware — covered against defects.
- Framing and structural posts — covered against significant rot.
- Footings — covered against frost heave and sinking.
If a covered component fails because of a defect in workmanship or materials, we repair or replace it. That’s the whole promise.
What “lifetime” means — and how it transfers
Lifetime means the entire time you own the home the deck was built on. If you sell, the warranty can go with the house: it transfers once to the new owner, any time within ten years of the completion date. The new owner just registers the transfer with us in writing within 60 days of closing.
How a warranty claim works
- Tell us in writing — an email or a letter — within 30 days of noticing a problem.
- We answer within 30 days with whether the claim is covered.
- We repair or replace within 30 more days, weather permitting.
Not sure whether something is covered? Call and ask. We would rather hear about it early.
The Details
What’s not covered
- Damage from things outside our control — storms, animals, accidents.
- Soil movement that isn’t frost-related (such as house settling), normal expansion and contraction of materials, and other natural phenomena.
- Damage from poor maintenance, improper use, or changes made by anyone other than us.
- Underground utilities, or repairs to them.
- Anything we didn’t build or install.
- Lights, wiring and electrical components — these are usually covered by their manufacturer’s warranty.
- Normal wear and tear, including natural checking or minor warping in lumber.
- Anything specifically excluded in your project agreement.
What counts as “significant rot”: decay that compromises the structural integrity of the framing — extensive softening, wood that crumbles or flakes under slight pressure, or fungal growth that affects strength and stability. Surface mold, discoloration, or small areas of decay that don’t affect structural soundness aren’t considered significant rot.
Trex’s warranties come on top
As a TrexPro Platinum builder, every Trex deck we build also carries Trex’s own coverage: a 25- or 50-year limited residential warranty against fading, staining and material defects (depending on the product line), plus Trex’s 10-year TrexPro Platinum labor warranty on Transcend and Signature decking and railing. Our warranty sits on top of those — it’s the part that covers how the deck was built. Read our plain-English guide to the Trex warranty.
The fine print
This warranty is provided by Custom Deck Creations, LLC to the original property owner for whom the project was completed. It does not extend the period of limitations under Michigan law (MCL 600.5839), and warranty work does not reset or extend that period. Failure to follow the warranty terms or to give timely notice of a defect may result in the waiver of rights to repairs or replacement.
Except as expressly provided in this warranty, Custom Deck Creations, LLC disclaims all warranties, express or implied, related to the work performed and the project completed, including warranties of description, quality, design, performance, specifications, condition, merchantability, and fitness for a particular purpose. Our warranty obligations and your remedies are limited to those set out in the warranty, and no other statement by any employee, agent, or representative changes its terms.
Nobody else builds decks like us. NOBODY.
